Chernihiv is dealing with the aftermath of Russian attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure, Ukraine

On the evening of December 23 and throughout the night of December 24, Russian forces attacked the city with strike drones. As a result of the attacks, energy, residential, and social infrastructure facilities were damaged. No civilians were injured.

At approximately 7:18 p.m. on December 23, the occupiers struck an energy infrastructure facility, leaving around 12,000 consumers without electricity. Emergency repair and restoration works are ongoing.

At around 8:30 p.m. the same day, a drone hit a nine-storey residential building. The roof, heating system, windows, and doors were damaged. Six neighboring apartment buildings and eight vehicles were also damaged.

At approximately 3:38 a.m. on December 24, Russian forces carried out another strike, causing a fire in a non-residential building, which was promptly extinguished by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. A four-storey residential building, a private household, a gymnasium building, a non-residential structure, and two vehicles were damaged.

In addition, the occupiers struck the territory of a kindergarten, shattering windows and damaging the playground.

Emergency responders, municipal services, and repair crews are working at all affected locations to carry out urgent recovery measures.
