As of January 24, 2026, hundreds of thousands of consumers in the Chernihiv region, including the regional center, remain without electricity due to a targeted strike by Russian occupiers on critical infrastructure in the city of Nizhyn. Despite the energy terror carried out by the invaders, the situation in the region remains under control.
Over the past 24 hours, five impacts by attack drones have been recorded in the region. Due to significant damage to equipment and the complex security situation, the restoration of electricity supply may take a considerable amount of time.
Despite the critical conditions, life-support facilities continue to operate thanks to the transition to alternative energy sources. Boiler houses and medical facilities have been switched to generator power, allowing heat supply to be maintained in residential buildings in Chernihiv and enabling medical staff to continue providing necessary care to patients.
Chernihivvodokanal municipal utility is also ensuring water supply using autonomous generator units. In some communities across the region, water supply is provided according to approved emergency outage schedules.
Municipal infrastructure and the transport system have also been adapted to operate under blackout conditions. Electric public transport in Chernihiv has been temporarily suspended, with the exception of one route, while the main passenger transport load has been redistributed to bus fleets.
To support the population, a network of “Points of Invincibility” has been deployed across the region. In total, 277 locations are currently operating, organized by local authorities, the State Emergency Service, and local businesses, 29 of which are located directly in the regional center. At these locations, people can charge their devices, warm up, and access communication and the internet.
Damage to the energy infrastructure has not brought the region to a halt, as Russian occupiers had intended. Relevant services continue working to eliminate the consequences of the attack.
